With the largest ocean fishing fleet in California, Eureka lands more rock-fish, Dungeness Crab, salmon, shrimp and oysters, than any other region in California.      In addition to the nearby rugged coastline of the Pacific Ocean with its vast unpopulated beaches, Eureka is surrounded by hundreds of miles of magnificent 1,000 year old giant Redwood trees - trees so big you can drive your car through them, and taller than a football field.

     For travelers looking for redwood trees, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, about 30 miles south of Eureka, has a 40 mile stretch (The Avenue of the Giants) of these ancient monuments of the prehistoric past. A half hour's drive north of Eureka begins the 300,000 acre Redwood National Park, with miles and miles of hiking trails, beaches, wildlife, and other natural wonders of these ancient monuments of the prehistoric past.
