Abigail's “Elegant Victorian Mansion”

Historic Lodging Accommodations,
a Northern California House Museum
in Eureka, California

The "ELEGANT VICTORIAN" is an AWARD-WINNING 1888 NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK, featuring spectacular gingerbread exteriors, opulent Victorian interiors, antique furnishings, and classic paintings by European Masters. Breath-takingly authentic, with all the nostalgic trimmings of the 1890s, this meticulously restored Victorian masterpiece offers both HISTORY & HOSPITALITY, combined with ROMANCE & PAMPERING. An interior Decorator's Award-Winning "Designer Show-Case" of authentic high-Victorian interiors, the Inn is also an inter-active "Living-History" House-Museum of the Victorian experience.

Our Victorian Mansion is much more like the original 'Home Stay' (like visiting Grandma's house), rather than the commercial Bed & Breakfast Inns found today. All of the rooms are smoke-free and for non-smokers only. Both bedrooms are filled with quiet, unpretentious luxury. Each immaculately clean room has been beautifully restored and tastefully decorated; its original elegance enhanced with the discreet addition of modern conveniences. (To keep you "plugged in" to the modern world, there is free WiFi internet access and 'Charging Docks' in all rooms.)

Both bedrooms have period furnishings, queen-sized beds (with luxurious new Heirloom mattresses), a desk, a sitting area and a private bath. The Langtry Room has views overlooking Eureka, Humboldt Bay, the Samoa Peninsula and in the distance, the Pacific Ocean. The Langtry Room has a detached bath, which sometimes is shared. Both rooms are colored with history and famous personalities. (see PHOTO ALBUM for details).

Although noted for its outstanding quality, elegance, and highly personalized service, more than that, the ELEGANT VICTORIAN is a special place of warmth, good cheer and spirited camaraderie. More like a festive vacation with one's best friends, the Inn is a heaven for the visitor who is thought of as a guest - not a customer, a fellow traveler - not a tourist.  Finding good spirit, good laughter, and good friends, is always a joy.

ABOUT BREAKFAST — While formerly serving Breakfast at our Historic Inn, we now no longer serve breakfast, and have reduced our rates accordingly. Additionally, our kitchen is NOT available to guests who wish to use its facilities to cook or heat or warm their own foods, left-overs, etc. We do however, offer both hot tea and hot coffee to all of our guests in the morning and at other times throughout the day. Additionally, for guests who need refrigeration, we have a small guest refrigerator, along with a Keurig Self-serve coffee machine, in the down-stairs back hall way.

ABOUT YOUR BATHROOMS — Of the two bedrooms we have available, the Governor's Room has an 'en-suite' private bath in the room, while the Langtry Room (no bathroom in the bedroom) occasionally has a shared Bathroom with one other room. The Langtry's shared Bathroom (located next to your room) is a very large room, with large claw-foot bath-tub & shower, pedestal sink with large wall mirror, high-tank pull-chain toilet, small cabinet, a large wicker cabinet holding a large supply of towels, etc., and a large wicker sitting chair. Bathrobes are furnished in the Langtry Room.

RATES range from $135 to $145 plus $15 City Tax and must be paid in cash only. Maximum of two people per room. Children are counted and billed the same as adults.

Due to the on-going breaches in security to credit card companies, we no longer accept Credit Cards for payment. However, we will authenticate and 'hold' your card to guarantee your reservation, and only charge the card if you fail to show up for your reservation.

See a SLIDE SHOW of the inn's interiors and exteriors.

Included in your stay are complimentary bicycles, croquet and laundry service; with Ocean views, beaches, antique shops, Humboldt State University and Redwood National Park all nearby.  For independent reviews from Travel Writers and authoritative Guide Books, and to learn why so many discriminate travelers seek lodging here, click on this link to THE CRITICS SPEAK.

RECREATION & ACTIVITIES: On site: Victorian flower gardens, tennis, antique automobile collection (1910 - 1928), croquet, Victorian board games, screening of silent movies in evening; Nearby: golf, sailing on Humboldt Bay, hiking, whitewater rafting, whale watching, bird watching, horseless carriage rides and ocean charters.

For an added dimension to your Humboldt County experience, the inn also offers an optional addition to your stay at the Victorian mansion. Interactive Living-History

For those guests who would like to add "spice" to their lives, the Inn often-times has its 1928 Ford Model A available for a ride in its "Rumble-Seat", with an adventurous driving tour of historic Eureka.

If interested in this ride, be sure to ask about it during your Check-In. This antique car ride lasts approximately a half hour; there is a $30 charge for this fun-filled nostalgic ride through yester-year. It's all part of the Inn's inter-active, living-history experience. When was the last time you rode in a "Rumble-Seat"?
